The island is just opposite Xiamen City with an area of 1.78 square kilometers. A five-minute boat trip takes you to this elegant island. No buses, cars or other vehicles are allowed on the island, so be prepared to do some walking.
The island is a world of sea breezes, sunshine and exotic architecture with Mediterranean flavor. The best way to explore Gulangyu is to wander along the street to visit Sunlight Rock - the city's landmark, Shuzhuang Park and Xiamen Seaworld.
A ten-minute climb to Sunlight Rock on the Longtoushan (Dragon Head Hill) - the highest point on Gulangyu offers you a panoramic view of the sea and the city.
North of the Rock, Shuzhuang Park was originally built in 1913 as the private villa of a Taiwan merchant. The park is elaborately designed with artificial rocks, zigzagging bridges, pavilions and caves.
A 100-meter-long bridge zigzags across the park. With an area of 17.5 hectares, Xiamen Seaworld is surely the place for Dolphin Acts and other Marine Attractions.
